Project Description

This project is the first stage of a 50MW+ IT load data centre to be constructed at Derrimut, in Melbourne Victoria.
Once constructed this will be Victoria's largest hyperscale data centre (by megawatts).
The facility will support Airtrunk's and their client's IT equipment as well as ancillary office and operational areas and a dedicated on site zone substation. The facility is required to be operational 365 days per year, 24 hours per day and is designed a 'Mission Critical Facility' generally meeting the requirements of a Tier 3 data centre as defined by the Uptime Institute.

Key Features

  • Total capacity 50MW+
  • 1.15 PUE
  • 20 data halls
  • 16,000m2 technical data hall area
  • 7,000 m2 office and storage area
  • 66KV diverse high voltage power feed
  • Carrier neutral with multiple entry path
  • Quick deployment to meet demand
  • Higher reliability and robust SLAs
  • Designed for highest security and quality: SCEC Zone 3 or higher, PCI DSS, ISO:27001 and ISAE 3402 www.airtrunk.com

ecoMECH - Detailed Mechanical Design Documentation

As part of the Learning Communities Victoria (LCV) consortium, the successful tenderer for Victoria's current New Schools Public Private Partnership Project (PPP), ecoMECH provided mechanical advice and documentation to 8 of the 15 high priority new government schools.

The project features a range of school types tailored to the needs of the community, including primary schools, prep to year 9 schools, prep to year 12 schools, a special school integrated primary, and a special development school for children with a high level of intellectual disability. Early learning facilities are also being integrated into the campus at six of the schools involved in the PPP program. The schools are located across a number of Victoria's fastest growing metropolitan and regional communities including Bannockburn, Epping North, Point Cook South, North Geelong, Armstrong Creek, Torquay North, Mernda South, Casey Central East, Pakenham South West, Heather Grove and Cranbourne South West.
While the design of each school is unique and reflects the needs of the local community, common features throughout all schools include the development of environments that support a range of learning styles, an embedded awareness of environmental sustainability, and internal environments that are well ventilated and rich in natural light. Passive building design is employed throughout supported by active systems that maintain temperature and CO? concentration within project suitable bands. The schools are designed as community hubs and will encourage community use and additional community facilities and programs through a partnership with the YMCA. The schools will also support inclusion of all learners, including students with a disability.
The new schools will be delivered in two groups. The first group will open for students in Term 1, 2017 and the second for Term 1, 2018.

Approximate Project Value - Part of major upgrade works totalling $580m
Builder - Probuild Construction (Vic) Pty Ltd.
Architect - Bates Smart Pty Ltd.
ecoMECH - Construction Mechanical Design Documentation, ESD advise and Energy Modelling for Green Star As-Built & NABERS predictions and assessments.

The project involves the construction of a 10 level 17,000sqm PCA Grade-A Commercial Office Tower above 25,000sqm over 4 levels of basement car park. In addition to a new 14 bay Bus Interchange Facility and an additional 8,000sqm above ground deck to the existing Myer Carpark. The Commercial Tower is designed to achieve a 5 Star Green Star Design & As-built Rating, and 4.5 Star NABERS Energy rating. ecoMECH have taken a lead role in the predictive energy modelling for the As-Built Green Star and NABERS assessments to ensure that the completed building complies with the these project requirements. ecoMECH have worked hand in hand with services consultant Norman Disney and Young who provided the original mechanical, original energy modelling, fire, hydraulic, electrical, communication and security designs for the project.
Key Features
  • Extensive mechanical assisted car park exhaust system with CO control.
  • Air Cooled Primary Plant & Closed Loop Tenant Condenser Water Systems.
  • Low temperature Variable Air Volume system with High Induction Swirl Diffusion delivery.
  • High energy efficient low pressure drop Air and Water handling plants.
